Save the Scottish Regiments

In 1633, 143 years before the birth of the United States, the Royal Scots, the oldest infantry regiment in the British Army, was formed. Since that time, the Royal Scots have been a part of almost every campaign fought by the British Army. With nearly 150 battle honors to it's credit, this historic Scottish regiment has a record of courage and professionalism that is envied throughout the world. 372 years of history and tradition bind the present day Royal Scot to his ancestor, creating a heritage of honor and valor that is unparalleled.

Sadly, that 372 year old heritage is close to extinction. Sweeping changes in the structure of the British Army will merge all six of Scotland's historic regiments into one super regiment of five battalions. This is to be achieved by the amalgamation of the Royal Scots and the King's Own Scottish Borderers. These two regiments would cease to exist when they are formed into the first battalion of the new regiment. In a time of a global war on terror, the overall fighting strength of the British Army would be greatly reduced.

Save the Scottish Regiments

Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher said that the proposed merger was "irresponsible", "painful" and "damaging." She went on to state: "Recent events have shown that evil is always with us and that we must be forever vigilant." She added: "With the current threat of evil, the nation's defenses should be strengthened, not weakened."

In order to prevent this merger from taking place, the "Save the Scottish Regiments" campaign was formed. The campaign has undertaken a tireless effort to save all six Scottish regiments from merger. The campaign now has a vast number of supporters from every walk of life. Among those in support of the campaign is Sir Sean Connery, a Scotsman who believes in retaining what is best about Scotland and who understands the important contributions that the regiments have made to the security of Great Britain and the world.

From twelve inch maquettes to eight foot heroic monuments; planning, placement, raising of funds and overall consultation, Doyle Glass has set uncompromising standards of excellence and authenticity that few others can equal. From conception to completion, Doyle Glass is the source in America today for any memorial or monument to our servicemen and women.
