During the American War of Independence, General George Washington ordered that these words be read to the troops at Valley Forge, on Christmas Eve, shortly before the crossing of the Delaware. For over two hundred years, we have turned to those citizens who, in times of grave crisis, stand by our country. Each of us has been endowed by our Creator with the unalienable rights of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. Those rights have been and will be secured by the men and women of our armed forces.

War Memorials are a poignant, visible and constant reminder that the freedoms that we enjoy every day have come at a cost. That cost, often, the ultimate sacrifice, has and will be made by others for us. Through his art and literature, Doyle Glass has dedicated his life to honoring those that have made that sacrifice.
